WHAT IS TUDORCON?

Tudorcon is simply: three days of learning, feasting, music, food, dancing, and generally partying like it's 1509. Held in a newly restored winery next to the Pennsylvnia Renaissance Faire, we will bring together Tudor history enthusiasts from all over the world with their favorite authors, bloggers, and podcasters. This is the very first year that this event is happening, so come and be a part of history!

The backstory:

Tudorcon is the brainchild of Heather Teysko of the Renaissance English History Podcast. She has been podcasting on Tudor England since 2009, making her show among the longest continuously running independent history podcasts. One afternoon she thought to herself, “self, I’d really like to go to a Tudorcon. Why doesn’t one exist?” which inevitably led to, “I should make one!”

And so, after consulting with her audience and getting feedback, she decided to book the space, and make it a reality. The inaugural Tudorcon will be held from 18-20 October 2019, and the goal is to make it the premiere event for Tudor history enthusiasts in the US.

The mission of Tudorcon is to build friendships with other Tudor friends (we’re often islands of Tudor nerds surrounded by people who perpetually roll their eyes at us, amiright?) while learning from some of the leading authors, bloggers, and podcasters.

Social learning will mean that we will have a ton of fun together, as we share knowledge. Gatherings and parties provide ample opportunity for new friendships to form with others who share your passion for Tudor history!

I can’t wait to welcome you to Lancaster PA, my hometown, to share Tudor history with you, and join you in learning, and making new friends in the world's first Tudorcon!

VENUE INFORMATION

Mt. Hope Estate and Winery 2775 Lebanon Rd, Manheim, PA 17545

Our inaugural conference will be held at the historic newly restored winery adjacent to the PA Renaissance Faire.

More about the venue

Lancaster County in October is one of the most beautiful places on earth, but that’s not the only reason why I chose it for this first Tudorcon. It is also, of course, the Red Rose city, named after the House of Lancaster, and it’s fitting that we have our first Tudorcon. So it’s a perfect place to visit!

Autumn in Lancaster is a magical time. The light hangs low, the leaves are shades of golden orange, and the fields are harvested, with farmers’ markets bursting with apples, pears, and other seasonal fruits.

The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire is north of the town of Manheim, about 25 minutes to the north of downtown Lancaster. Here’s some information on planning your visit to Lancaster County:

The best airports to fly into are either BWI (about 90 minutes due south) or Philadelphia (about 75 minutes to the east). Harrisburg has regional flights, and you can sometimes get a decent deal there (about 45 minutes northwest).

The Renaissance Faire is just off the PA Turnpike, and so there are several hotel choices:

WHERE TO STAY:

Hampton Inn Manheim

from $109/night

Comfort Inn Manheim

from $89/night

Tea Kettle Bed and Breakfast

from $139/night

There are also plenty of hotels in the greater Lancaster area, or you can also check airbnb, which might be a good option!

If you buy your ticket before August 15, you will receive a physical swag bag just like the in-person attendees!

You will receive recordings of all the talks.

Parties will be streamed and hosted with special interviews just for the digital attendees.

Do I need a costume? Costumes are definitely encouraged, though not necessary (I'm not even wearing one)! You'll have plenty of opportunities to wear them, including the Friday welcoming party, and the Sunday feast.

I have a dietary request. Can you work with that? Absolutely - A few weeks before the weekend we'll be checking in to make sure we have a list of all the vegans, veggies, and gluten free folks.

Can I pay in installments? Yes! I've set up an account with Partial.ly, a company that allows for automated payment plans. You can now make three payments instead of just one lump one. Use -->>this link<<- when you sign up.
